Clement K. Chan, M.D., FACS

Dr. Clement K. Chan, M.D., FACS, is a fellowship-trained retina specialist who has proudly served patients in the Coachella Valley since 1989. He has built a long-standing reputation as a leader in medical and surgical treatments for retina-related disorders, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, vein occlusion, and macular edema.

Dr. Chan is an internationally recognized researcher dedicated to advancing vision care through clinical trials and scientific studies. He has been actively involved in over 40 NIH-sponsored and independent research studies since 1995, including:

  • Principal Investigator, Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS I & II)
  • Principal Investigator, Standard Care vs. Corticosteroid for Retinal Vein Occlusion (SCORE I & II)
  • Member, Executive Committee, DRCR Retina Network (2018–2020)
  • Protocol Chair & Lead Investigator, Pneumatic Vitreolysis for Vitreomacular Traction (2018–2020)
  • Principal Investigator, Prophylactic Ranibizumab to Prevent AMD Progression (PREVENT Study)

His cutting-edge research has contributed to groundbreaking treatments for age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic macular edema, and retinal vein occlusion.

Dr. Chan has received numerous awards for his contributions to ophthalmology, including:

  • American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) Senior Achievement Award (2018)
  • American Society of Retina Specialists Honor Award (2003) & Senior Honor Award (2007)
  • Honored Alumnus – Loma Linda University School of Medicine (2018)
  • James Weaver Nicoson Scholarship Award – UC Berkeley
  • Jules Gonin Travel Grant ($2,500) – Kyoto, Japan (2010)
